AS Coursework: Final Contents Page

This is my final music magazine contents page. There are two groups on this contents page, one group lists the items that are on the front cover of the magazine, the other column lists the articles which are within the magazine. There are 5 different images of Amy on this page, 3 of which are located in a film strip. I have faded the word contents and placed it through out the background, it is in the same stile the main one in the top right hand corner is

AS Coursework: Final Front Cover

This is my final music magazine front cover. The model that I have used is Amy Jones. My front cover contains: a headline, articles, barcode and pugs. The articles that I think will attract my target market are either bolder or larger than the others, or coloured in the same colour as the masthead. I have placed the barcode on the front of my magazine as many magazines do this to leave space for an advertisement on the following page.

AS Coursework: Interveiw

Amy Jo. Is it just me or does everyone feel a bit star struck when they see that name? it’s no wonder, with her monumental new album: Amy Jo, holding the number one spot for 8 consecutive weeks and her  number one hits: ‘Ready’, ‘Hide and Seek’ and ‘Candy Floss Kisses’, all claiming a single Grammy, Amy Jo is giving Lady gaga a run for her money. The 21 year old pop sensation is the topic on everyone’s lips these past 3 months. Between attending charity events, planning her first tour and replying to the masses of fan mail that’s currently flooding her front room, she finds the time to talk exclusively to ‘Earcandy’ about what it’s like to achieve so much in such a short space of time.

So Amy Jo, what does it feel like to be up there with the greats, such as Lady Gaga and Beyoncé?
I can’t even put it into words! It’s just so surreal; I don’t know how I’ve done it! I mean come on. I grew up on a council estate; the highest anyone’s ever achieved from where I lived was work part time in the local estate agents. *shakes her head in disbelief* I feel like I’m dreaming.

You’ve achieved so much for just 21. How did you break into the music business?
Haha, you won’t believe me. I was 18 and on the brink of dropping out of college, we had a trip to a music recording centre in Manchester. I remember everyone had a go of recording a single line from Rihanna’s ‘Unfaithful’. I was so nervous everything sort of blurred when it was my turn to sing. When I was finished everyone clapped like they were insane and then the manager came up to me and gave me his card. I swear I almost fainted! It’s hard to believe that my life started on that day.

That’s so impressive; did you always have a passion for singing?
*Bursts out laughing* just ask anyone! I used to have a hairbrush which I nicknamed micro which I used to sing into every chance I got! Now I think about it, it was so embarrassing but I loved it! My mum told me; every year when I was a kid i used to sing when it was a start of the New Year. *Grinning*.At every party I always made it my mission to sing ‘happy birthday’ the loudest. So yeah you could say I have a passion for singing.

Haha. Would you say you have any idols?
I have so many I’ve seriously lost count! There are just so many inspiration artists out there. But if I really had to choose my biggest idol it’s got to be Adele hands down! She’s truly inspiration.*Blushes* I even asked for her autograph at the Grammys!

So it’s true even stars get star struck. Were you surprised that your album: Amy Jo, reached number one so quickly?
Surprised is an understatement, I thought my manager was having a laugh when she told me! I had to look for myself just to be sure.

About your tour, you must expect it to be a sell out?
I can only wish!

Can ‘Earcandy’ have a sneaky preview on your new song ‘A million pieces’, which is released next month?
*Laughing* I would love to but if I did my manager would have to kill you! It’s a closely guarded secret and I’ll be honest with you, I haven’t even done the video yet. But I’ll tell you this, you haven’t seen nothing yet...

AS Coursework: Introducing The Artist

My music magazine is going to feature a solo artist, the model that I will use will be Amy Jones who's picture is located below:

There are various stage names that I could give to Amy these include:
  •  Rouge
  •  Destiny
  • Amy J
  • Amy Jo
Or I could use her original name, like many solo artists do.

After asking fellow pupils and my model, all of which are my target audience, the name that I have chosen is Amy Jo. This is a unique take on her full name Amy Jones.

AS Coursework: Chosen Fonts

This is the font that I and my target audience have decided to use for my masthead: Earcandy, as this is bold, strong, unique, and quirky. It’s slightly feminine but not entirely biased towards one particular sex.

This is the font that I will use for the majority of my text, e.g. articles on the contents page. I have chosen this because it is simple and clear but also unique and distinctive.

I will use this as a handwritten signature of my solo artist: Amy Jo
I will also include this font in my magazine as subheadings or on the interview text as it is simple and easy to read.

AS Coursework: Chosen Masthead

After much thought regarding genre and target audience the masthead that I have chosen is: Earcandy.

This masthead fits the Pop genre and was also the one picked by 16+ year olds which are my target audience.

AS Coursework: Font Ideas

Fonts are an important factor to consider when creating a music magazine, as the wrong use of font (one that doesn’t appeal to the consumer) could determine if you magazine is sellable or a disaster. I have searched through Da font.com and collected various fonts which I will use on different features in my magazine such as the masthead, articles, general text used for the double page spread.

AS Coursework: Masthead Ideas

Firstly, the main feature of any music magazine is the name/masthead; this is how the magazine is recognised from the masses of others in the market. There are various names that I have considered which are relevant to my genre are:

Melody
Beatz
Ear candy
MU

AS Coursework: Genre & Target Audience

Genres
There are various genres that I need to consider before making my final choice, to help me decide I searched for inspirational musicians/their genres and took note.
The genres that I am considering are:
R&B
Pop
Soul
Electro Pop

It is common with modern musicians to have combined genres, for instance BeyoncĂ© has R&B and Pop and is featured in many magazines.

These are the genres that I am selecting: Pop.

Target Audience:
The target audience of my music magazine is going to be people who are interested in Pop; are aged 16+ and are female. I have chosen this age range because I myself am 16 and interested in the Pop genre; therefore I know what my generation and people with similar interests are looking for in a music magazine.

Preliminary task: Chosen Masthead

The masthead I have chosen for my school  fashion/uniform magazine is: High fashion.
The High comes from Biddulph High school, but also ties in with fashion; because of this masthead my magazine slogan will be: Fashion gets an education.

Preliminary task: Contense page

We have also been asked to complete a contents page to accompanie our front cover, the contents page has to have numbers acompanying the articles so the reader is able to navigate easily.
Content page articles and numbers:
  • 5 outfits, 5 days                                      page:  3
  • 100 budget buys!                                   page:  8
  • Celebrity inspired looks                          page: 16
  • 25% off....                                             page:  20
  • Oh no!... its compulsory                         page:  22
  • Pupils opinions                                       page:  27
  • Do's and Donts                                      page: 29
  • None uniform days!                               page:  31

Preliminary task: Article/Subheading Ideas

Subheadings commonly known as articles are one of the main pull factors of a magazine, they can be the deciding factor on if a person buys a magazine or not.
Here are my article ideas:
  • 5 outfits, 5 days
  • 100 budget buys!
  • Celebrity inspired looks
  • 25% off....
  • Oh no!... its compulsory
  • Pupils Opinions

Preliminary task: Fonts

The above are the fonts that  I have collected from Dafont.com and 1001 Free Fonts. I have chosen these fonts because they are unique and when combined with my colour scheme will have a dramatic effect on the reader. In addition to this these fonts are also suitable for my target audience.

Preliminary task: Research PowerPoint

In my media lessons it has been requested that I evaluate two  front covers of school magazines and two contents pages of school magazines, this has given me a range of ideas and expectations for my own school magazine.

Preliminary task: Colour Schemes

These are the colour schemes I have collected from the internet from a colour scheme generator and a colour scheme site with pre made collections, I have chosen a varied range of colour schemes, personally I believe that none of these colour schemes are biased towards a singular sex. The above colour schemes will also attract my target audience and will contrast well with any pictures added.
.

Preliminary task: Front cover mock up

Whilst in my media studies lessons I have been creating mock ups for my school magazine front cover, the above are the results of my lessons. I have created 4 mock ups to give me a varied range of colours, positions and general ideas.
