AS Coursework: Introducing The Artist

My music magazine is going to feature a solo artist, the model that I will use will be Amy Jones who's picture is located below:

There are various stage names that I could give to Amy these include:
  •  Rouge
  •  Destiny
  • Amy J
  • Amy Jo
Or I could use her original name, like many solo artists do.

After asking fellow pupils and my model, all of which are my target audience, the name that I have chosen is Amy Jo. This is a unique take on her full name Amy Jones.

AS Coursework: Chosen Fonts

This is the font that I and my target audience have decided to use for my masthead: Earcandy, as this is bold, strong, unique, and quirky. It’s slightly feminine but not entirely biased towards one particular sex.

This is the font that I will use for the majority of my text, e.g. articles on the contents page. I have chosen this because it is simple and clear but also unique and distinctive.

I will use this as a handwritten signature of my solo artist: Amy Jo
I will also include this font in my magazine as subheadings or on the interview text as it is simple and easy to read.

AS Coursework: Chosen Masthead

After much thought regarding genre and target audience the masthead that I have chosen is: Earcandy.

This masthead fits the Pop genre and was also the one picked by 16+ year olds which are my target audience.

AS Coursework: Font Ideas

Fonts are an important factor to consider when creating a music magazine, as the wrong use of font (one that doesn’t appeal to the consumer) could determine if you magazine is sellable or a disaster. I have searched through Da font.com and collected various fonts which I will use on different features in my magazine such as the masthead, articles, general text used for the double page spread.

AS Coursework: Masthead Ideas

Firstly, the main feature of any music magazine is the name/masthead; this is how the magazine is recognised from the masses of others in the market. There are various names that I have considered which are relevant to my genre are:

Melody
Beatz
Ear candy
MU

AS Coursework: Genre & Target Audience

Genres
There are various genres that I need to consider before making my final choice, to help me decide I searched for inspirational musicians/their genres and took note.
The genres that I am considering are:
R&B
Pop
Soul
Electro Pop

It is common with modern musicians to have combined genres, for instance BeyoncĂ© has R&B and Pop and is featured in many magazines.

These are the genres that I am selecting: Pop.

Target Audience:
The target audience of my music magazine is going to be people who are interested in Pop; are aged 16+ and are female. I have chosen this age range because I myself am 16 and interested in the Pop genre; therefore I know what my generation and people with similar interests are looking for in a music magazine.
